Welcome to the Open College Network Yorkshire and Humber Region

On 7th July 2008 we moved to Wakefield.

The Open College Network Yorkshire and Humber Region (OCNYHR) is licensed by the National Open College Network (NOCN) to accredit learning from Entry Level to Level Three, as regulated by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).

OCNYHR is also licensed by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) as an Access Validating Agency (AVA) for Access to HE provision and the Access to HE Diploma.

We are a membership organisation and work in partnership across all post-14 sectors to maximise opportunities for learners in all settings.

NOCN is the leading national awarding body for credit based, unitised qualifications for learners in workplaces, schools, colleges and the community. N/OCN believes that a flexible credit based framework is an appropriate structure to establish a new qualifications system. OCN providers are involved in tests and trials for the Qualifications and Credit Framework and the Foundation Learning Tier across the country and in the region. During 07/08, NOCN will be extending its range of high quality credit based products to meet the demands of learners and employers in local, regional and national social and economic planning.

Our Mission is:

"The Open College Network supports learning and widens opportunity by recognising achievement through credit based courses and qualifications"

Our Vision Statement is:

"To be at the forefront of a comprehensive national Credit Accumulation and Transfer system, and recognised for promoting social inclusion, wider participation and community transformation"

Our Values Statement:

"This mission is anchored in the following core values:

  • A belief in the entitlement of people to gain recognition for their achievements in learning and to fulfil their potential
  • Respect for and encouragement of diversity - in learners and learning approaches, partners and settings
  • A passion to make a difference to disadvantaged individuals, groups and communities
  • An ambition to open up opportunties for vocational progression and personal and social development

OCNYHR is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Registered Charity (1088839).
