Continuing Professional Development
The Open College Network Yorkshire & Humber (OCNYHR) Continuing Professional Development Programme (CPD) offers an extensive range of events for practitioners at all levels in support of curriculum development, best practice in assessment and evidence and diversity.
The OCN also offers accredited professional development programmes in assessment, internal and external Verification (all are NOCN Awards at Level Three), which are an opportunity for professional and personal development for staff across all sectors.
- All OCN training offers transferable skills which practitioners will be able to apply to a wide range of contexts and to learners from age 14 upwards
- All OCN training counts towards Institute for Learning (IFL) mandatory CPD hours for teaching practitioners
- All OCN training is delivered by highly trained specialist tutors with a broad experience of further and community education
- Our staff are involved in national consultations with the Lifelong Learning Sector Skills Council (LLUK, SVUK and ENTO) in the development of new national occupational standards for tutors, assessors and practitioners in quality assurance

All OCNYHR training is based on a peer approach which encourages participants to explore their practice and to share good practice with others. Every participant brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with them, and we try to ensure that this is seen and used as a valuable and intrinsic resource.
All training will be at our new Wakefield office unless otherwise stated.
Tailor-made Training Service
The OCN offers a tailor-made training service for its membership in community/local venues or at a centre’s premises by arrangement. We can devise an individual programme for a centre, or consortium of centres or devise a specific programme to meet the needs of tutors/trainers, managers or quality staff . We can offer Centres non accredited continuous professional staff development in areas such as ‘Preparation for Ofsted Inspection’ and ‘Developing Your Self Assessment Report’. The in-house service includes a pre-course guidance and information session and postcourse tutorial support for all learners on the Awards. For all tailor-made training there is a 50% non-refundable booking fee.
