Voluntary and Community Sector

OCNYHR includes over 100 learning providers – from large organisations like the WEA to local community groups like Hyde Park Source and Doncaster Alcohol Services. All contribute to the diversity of learning that the OCN accredits and have made a significant impact on how learning is assessed and evidenced through the network.

Strategy

We have a long history of work at both a strategic and operational level with the VCS membership.

We are active in the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Forum Learning and Skills Group, in Consortia development (with NIACE Consortia+ and West Yorkshire Learning Consortium) and with local learning networks and forum. The OCNYHR Director is the VCS representative on the Regional Skills Partnership (on behalf of the YH Regional Forum).

We are particularly aware of the need to keep informed of national and regional policy steers and changes in funding and contracting arrangements. Our Priorities (see below) outline some current activities but we recognise learning and accreditation opportunities in a range of contexts including:

  • ChangeUp
  • the National Support Services and building the infrastructure of the VCS
  • Civic engagement and citizenship through the role of the Department for Communities and Local Government and Constitutional Affairs
  • The LSC’s workforce skills agenda and development of Personal and Community Development Learning
  • Work with the Skills Third Sector and various Sector Skills Councils (and occupational standards development for trustees, fundraising, community development and volunteer management)

We are committed to developing collaboration, peer learning, network and consortia development. VCS people have also been represented on the Boards of the previous sub regional OCNs.
