At the Open College Network Yorkshire & Humber Region (OCNYHR) we believe in the following values and principles:
Empowerment
- The Approval of learning as a powerful tool for individual development.
- The Approval of the role of learners and communities in determining what learning is of value to them.
- The engagement of practitioners in qualification design to ensure a match.between the needs of the learner, the curriculum and qualification.
Equity:
- All should have equal access to learning opportunities.
- All should have the opportunity to succeed in their learning.
- All should be accorded equal esteem for their learning achievements.
- All should have their achievements recognised within an inclusive national qualification framework.
Inclusive Learning:
- All learning opportunities should be designed on the basis of learners’ needs.
- All learners should be actively included and fully engaged in their learning and the assessment of their learning.
- All learning can be formally recognised for the purpose of progression.
- All learners should have the greatest degree of match between their individual requirements and the curriculum, and between the curriculum and qualifications.
Entitlement:
- The right of all learners to a quality learning experience.
- The right of all learners to a curriculum which matches their needs.
- The right of all learners to have their achievement recognised and valued.
- The right of all learners to fair assessment that enables them to succeed.
The OCN’s Commitment to Quality
We are committed to Quality in all types and locations of learning and our staff work with providers in an active way, developing and promoting the best provision for all of our learners. - Assessment procedures which offer participation, equity and reliable standardisation.
- Systems which provide efficient recording and evaluation of the quality model.
